Juniors Team
Making its debut in 2010, the Team GEARGRINDER Junior Cycling Squad will provide structure for serious young riders to work as a team and grow as individuals and athletes. The Junior squad will have tremendous opportunity to experience the culture of a well-respected team with varying categories of racers. Young riders will benefit from the motivation and support of others on Team GEARGRINDER as they strive to advance to the next level of racing.
Team GEARGRINDER is recruiting riders between ages 13 and 16 for the squad that will focus on the Wisconsin Cup schedule, the Wisconsin state championship races and several other regional events during the 2010 season. The Geargrinder Junior Development Road Team will be coached and directed by Gary Achterberg, a Level 1 USA Cycling coach with 14 years experience working with young cyclists. He was the original junior coach of the ISCorp Cycling Team before he spent five years coaching the Midwestern State University Cycling Team in Wichita Falls, Texas. He coached the 2009 Wisconsin Cup junior champion and GEARGRINDER rider Eric Dobberfuhl. He also has coached three riders as juniors who went on to sign professional cycling contracts.
The program is designed to have family involvement and allow the junior riders to have access to all the team member benefits.
